A new poll, released by Politico and Harvard, reveals that the majority of Americans are firmly opposed to the Biden administration’s effort to abolish Title 42 policy restrictions, as such abolition will facilitate even easier entry into the nation.
A total of 1,025 American adults responded to the poll, with a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points.
Currently, the White House is lurching towards lifting Title 42 policy restrictions for illegal migrants, which the Trump administration put in place as the pandemic swept through the nation. Under Title 42, a significant percentage of illegal migrants could be denied entry, and its abrupt removal has caused significant controversy due to the already strained circumstances at the border.
Given that the Biden administration continues to place restrictions on legal American citizens reentering the nation, allegedly due to COVID precautions that Europe and the UK have long since abandoned, his drive towards lifting restrictions for illegal immigrants first has rankled many.
The results of the poll emerge before the potential termination of Title 42 restrictions via the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), another federal agency that has been endowed with unprecedented power since the onset of the pandemic.
However, a judge in Louisiana fortunately blocked the CDC’s efforts to make the border even more porous for illegal migrants and human traffickers.
Title 42 was originally put in place by the Trump Administration in March 2020, just as the pandemic began to severely destabilize the nation’s economy and society. This policy is estimated to have prevented at least 1.7 million illegal migrants from gaining entry to the United States to date, and the removal of the policy is widely expected to result in an onslaught at the border, overwhelming dramatically understaffed facilities.
Even the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which has generally targeted conservative parents with more enthusiasm than cartel leaders, admits that at least 18,000 illegal migrants may storm the border on a daily basis upon the removal of Title 42.
