Don’t mess with Texas, and definitely don’t mess with Governor Abbott!
Recently, numerous Democrats fled the state of Texas in order to disrupt quorum and effectively block voting on voter integrity legislation, further revealing how intent the Democrats have always been on destroying electoral honesty.
Thus, rather than deal with legislation that actually protects voter integrity, the Democrats would rather turn their backs and flee to DC.
Needless to say, Abbott has had it with the fleeing Democrats, who attempted to take a “stand” against supposed voter restrictions by fleeing the state and heading straight to the swamps of DC.
Abbott subsequently called out the fleeing liberals for exactly what they are: “un-Texan.”
“Isn’t that the most un-Texan thing you’ve ever heard? Texans running from a fight? They’re quitters … It’s like during a football game or baseball game, taking their equipment when they’re way behind and just leaving the field. That is not the way that Texas, Texans do things.” [Source: The Daily Wire]
Rather than “do things,” these Democrats opted to preen for the press instead, though they achieved nothing of value by leaving Texas to disrupt quorum.
Even more embarrassingly, the only thing that fleeing Democrats “achieved” was creating a mini super-spreader event, as several vaccinated “lawmakers” ironically contracted the virus after fleeing from their legislative responsibilities in Texas.
On top of that, they may have temporarily escaped their legislative responsibilities, but they certainly did not do so indefinitely, as evidenced by Abbott’s intention to call repeated special sessions until issues with voter integrity are resoundingly resolved.
“The Texas Legislature achieved a great deal during the 87th Legislative Session, and they have a responsibility to finish the work that was started …
I will continue to call special session after special session to reform our broken bail system, uphold election integrity, and pass other important items that Texans demand and deserve.” [Source: The Daily Wire]
Looks like those Democrats are going to have to flee from Texas on “private jet after private jet,” as they did the first time, in order to escape their responsibilities continuously, though at some point they will be forced to be adults. Hopefully.
The move towards accountability seems especially unlikely given the fact that the White House is effectively cheerleading the Democrats who fled from their legislative responsibilities, as evidenced by Psaki’s typically preening press conferences.
“Our fundamental view is that if you are pushing for legislation that makes it harder and not easier to vote, that makes it less accessible, that limits the ability of people to get to the polls, to take time off to do that, then our question is, what are you afraid of here? Are you afraid of more people getting out to vote?” [Source: The Daily Wire]
Well, Psaki has a point, to a degree … It certainly would be “harder” to cheat in elections with pesky requirements to ensure electoral honesty, such as daring to require photo identification with mail-in ballots.
Never mind the fact that liberal cities like New York are requiring COVID passports to entire dining facilities, which would lead one to think that requiring photo identification to vote is a rather reasonable request.
Moreover, the White House will take any effort to undermine Abbott, as well as Governor DeSantis of Florida, given their rather stark opposition to excessive governmental interference at the federal level.
For instance, Abbott enraged Biden in the spring by abolishing the indoor mask mandates, as that action drew Biden’s famous “Neanderthal thinking” insult.
However, Abbott was not even remotely troubled by Biden’s ranting, and he recently rejected requests from the San Antonio School District to reinstate mandatory masks for students.
“The time for government mask mandates is over—now is the time for personal responsibility … In May, I signed an executive order prohibiting mask mandates by gov’t entities. Every Texan has the right to choose whether they will wear a mask or have their children wear masks.” [Source: Fox News]
Unlike liberals, stalwart conservatives like Abbott stand by their word.
One can only hope that the federal government does not attempt to do to governors what the CDC is doing to landlords now …
